For three gloriously sunny days this week, Clerkenwell was invaded by those with a thirst for fine design and an appetite for unique architecture. 100's of pink flags and signs directed visitors to dozens of talks, private views, film screenings and exhibitions at over 60 showrooms, agencies and boutiques.
To immerse ourselves in a bit of the local culture, a hungry bunch of us set off from FRUKT yesterday to collect our bright pink CDW wristbands from the main hub at the Farmiloe Building. The former premises of George Farmiloe & Sons - the lead and glass merchants - one of Clerkenwell's longest established firms, and now used for events (Secret Cinema recently used the site for their production of 'The Third Man') and film sets (Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Batman films have used it on more than one occasion).
Jaguar, (headline sponsor of CDW), were displaying various beautifully designed cars in the courtyard and a clay modeller was onsite showing everyone how to carve a car out of clay. Not easy as it turns out. From there we explored showrooms of beautiful scandinavian furniture, giant handbags, sculptural light fittings and a whole army of Anglepoise lamps.
Taking all this stunning design in was thirsty work so we wandered round to Clerkenwell Green to join the assembled throng enjoying live music in the evening sunshine from Josephine Lloyd and Indigo Earth.
