Tropicana: Orange powered billboard

Here’s a clever little outdoor billboard campaign from France that touts plenty of eco credibility whilst also pushing a health conscious energy message in a unique and quirky way.

Tropicana, the Pepsi owned juice brand, decided to promote the fact that its juice drink is the natural fuel your body needs by building a billboard powered by one of its core ingredients – Oranges.

Carefully pacing 2,500 oranges onto a copper electrode structure the resulting acidity managed to produce 1800 volts of energy, thereby powering an attached illuminated sign that revealed the message ‘Natural Energy’.

It's a clever use of a bit of schoolboy science that turns a static ad into a memorable outdoor campaign, that not only has major visual impact but presumably can be smelt from some distance away – fuelling the desire for purchase even more.
