Royal Caribbean - Total Eclipse

Bonnie Tyler x DNCE go Total Eclipse of the Heart with Royal Caribbean

Challenge

For Royal Caribbean’s specialty cruise to view the North American eclipse at sea, FRUKT was tasked with securing surprise music guest Bonnie Tyler and pairing her with a pop culture relevant artist who would serve as the headlining performer for a concert at sea; closing with a never before heard duet of Tyler’s hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

After recommendations and offers to Talent, DNCE was secured as the headliner, a role they revisited after the 2016 launch of Harmony of the Seas – currently the largest cruise ship in the world.

Catalyst

Based on FRUKT’s vast knowledge of music artists and collaborators, we identified and recommended a roster of artists to headline a celebratory concert before the eclipse that would also pair well dueting with Tyler for such a memorable music performance.

DNCE are big fans of covering songs with an interpretational twist and based on that along with their current pop music status, we led a strong recommendation to the client in that the band was the perfect fit for this particular collaboration.

Solution

Few challenging Talent factors in that Bonnie Tyler was in Lebanon the day before the ship sailed and DNCE was returning from the Philippines from a show. We were able to accommodate travel and negotiate and manage Talent for the project while also securing important assets for Royal to promote this unique pairing across media channels and social and digital platforms.

Results

Tyler created an unprecedented amount of buzz around the project generating an enormous interest in the performance:

  • The event has officially earned +2 billion media impressions with broadcast and online hits.
